A police officer allegedly involved in a bribery case was released on bail with surety of RM10,000 yesterday. His trial has been fixed for April 1 to 4 at the Corruptions Court here after he pleaded not guilty to accepting bribes totalling RM1,150 from two men.
The accused faces four charges under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission Act 2009. If convicted, the accused can be fined a maximum of RM10,000 or five times the bribe money or jailed a maximum of 20 years.
He was alleged to have on Feb 11, 2011 about 7pm accepted a bribe of RM300 from a man in Kota Sentosa and received a bribe of RM250 from another man in Kota Sentosa on Aug 5, 2011 about 7.30pm.
He was also accused of accepting bribes of RM300 each time he met the man on Aug 11, 2011 about 6.05am and Oct 5, 2011 about 3.20pm in Kota Sentosa.
It was said that the bribes were inducement for not taking action against the two men for selling pirated discs.
