An accountability court on Wednesday convicted two former City District Government Karachi (CDGK) officers of corruption.
Announcing the judgment, Accountability Court-XI judge Sa’ad Qureshi observed that former EDO Shariq Qureshi, former DDO Imtiaz, welfare society office-bearers Syed Izharul Hassan Kazimi and Syed Abbas Naqvi and another accused had misappropriated funds totalling Rs9.1 million in 2005 and that they were bound to return the amount.
The judge ordered that in case the convicts failed to return the misappropriated amount, their properties should be auctioned.
A corruption reference against six people was filed by then city Nazim Naimatullah Khan, who alleged that the accused had embezzled funds allocated for an Education Literacy Programme and other projects.
