A Texas border county commissioner has been arrested on federal bribery charges accusing him of taking cash payments in return for official favors.
Webb County Precinct 1 Commissioner Kristopher Michael Montemayor is named in a two-count indictment unsealed on Wednesday after his arrest. The indictment accuses the 36-year-old Laredo man of accepting the use of a new pickup truck in return for promised government jobs for the truck’s owner and his wife.
The indictment also alleges Montemayor took about $11,000 in cash and electronics equipment worth about $2,700 from an undercover agent posing as a businessman. In return, Montemayor was to promote the agent’s ostensible business interests.
Montemayor’s telephone number is not listed and he couldn’t be reached for comment. He is scheduled for arraignment in federal court March 26.
