The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had arrested a Group Captain of the Indian Air Force (IAF), based at the Air Force Station, Deolali near Nashik in Maharashtra, for allegedly for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a civil contractor.
A press release from the agency said the contractor had complained that the officer had demanded the bribe for handing over of a construction site for carrying out the work given to him.
On the basis of the complaint, the CB registered a case and, after verification of the allegations, laid a trap. The release said the officer was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
Searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused and incriminating documents were recovered, the release said.
The arrested accused was produced today before the Competent Court at Nashik. Further investigation is in progress, the release added.
