Kazakhstan’s Almaty City Military Court has opened hearings in a bribery case against Deputy Defense Minister, Baghdat Maikeev who was arrested last February, accused of taking $1.5 million in bribes. according to a report by RFE/RL.
The May 12 hearings were brief, and Judge Asqar Qaiyrov adjourned the case until May 15.
Maikeev had been deputy defense minister since September 2011.
In a previous case in December, former Deputy Air Force Commander, General Asqar Buldeshev, was sentenced to 8 1/2 years in jail for abuse of office.
