Quebec’s anti-corruption squad made a ninth arrest Wednesday in the $22.5-million bribery scandal at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
The squad says Stephane Roy, former vice-president of finance at Montreal engineering giant SNC-Lavalin, conspired with others “in a corruption plot aimed to favouring SNC-Lavalin in securing the contract to build the MUHC.” He faces 11 charges.
Pierre Duhaime, former CEO of SNC-Lavalin, is also charged, as is former company executive Riadh Ben Aissa, who is currently in a Swiss jail accused of paying massive bribes to the Libyan government in an unrelated case.
Police allege Duhaime conspired with Ben Aissa to pay 22.5 million to MUHC officials in exchange for the $1-billion contract to build the sprawling hospital complex in west-end Montreal.
Another accused, former MUHC CEO Dr. Arthur Porter, who was once Canada’s spy watchdog, remains in a Panamanian prison awaiting extradition to Canada.
