The former manager of a U.S. Postal Service maintenance garage has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for taking bribes from vendors.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Cleveland says 46-year-old Kevin Hood received $15,000 in bribes, $4,000 in vehicle repairs and $900 in stolen auto parts. A businessman told authorities in late 2011 that Hood insisted he would need to be paid if the businessman wanted to continue getting contracts. Postal special agents watched in March as the business owner paid Hood $4,500 in cash that Hood stuck in his boot.
Hood’s sentencing Monday makes him the third employee from the Postal Service garage in Cleveland sentenced on theft- or bribery-related charges since 2009.
Hood’s attorney says his client is remorseful and has gotten help through Alcoholics Anonymous.
