A senior Customs officer was charged at the Sessions Court with seven counts of accepting over half a million ringgit bribe in relation to smuggling of liquor to avoid duties.
Harun Baba, 57, claimed trial to accepting RM688,100 as an inducement from an individual for not carrying out inspection on vehicles ferrying liquor to avoid duties.
He was charged with committing the offences at the parking lot of Armada Hotel, Lot 6, Lorong Utara Section 52 in Petaling Jaya and at the Royal Customs Department, Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) ,Pulau Indah, Klang.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutors Ahmad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi and Husmaruddin Husin proposed for a RM210,000 bail with one surety.
Harun who was unrepresented in his mitigation pleaded for a RM50,000 to RM60,000 bail.
Judge Datuk Noradidah Ahmad granted RM100,000 bail with one surety.
She fixed Oct 30 for mention.
