A correctional officer at a Los Angeles prison has pleaded guilty to a federal bribery charge after prosecutors say he accepted $1,000 in cash to smuggle a cellphone to an inmate.
Luis Borjon entered the plea Tuesday and faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
According to court documents, he approached an inmate at the federal Terminal Island prison in November 2012. The inmate put Borjon in contact with his brother. The two men met at a gas station, where prosecutors say Borjon accepted cash to smuggle a cellphone into the prison.
Borjon delivered the cellphone to the inmate. It was later seized by other officers.
Borjon was indicted by a federal grand jury in June and arrested in September. He is scheduled to be sentenced in February.
