A Cleveland-area county probation officer charged with bribery is accused of offering to release someone early from probation in exchange for cash.
The Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office said Monday that 45-year-old Michael Williams of Bedford also was indicted on a records-tampering charge.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
Authorities allege he solicited $750 from a probationer on Friday and offered early release from probation in exchange for part of the payment. The prosecutor’s office says the probationer contacted the sheriff’s office and helped detectives catch Williams with the money after he accepted a payment.
A statement by the county court’s presiding judge says Williams has been put on paid leave pending further review, and the court will cooperate with the investigation.
