Federal prosecutors say a man has pleaded guilty to bribing a federal official for help with his immigration status.
Officials say 31-year-old Hakeem Omar pleaded guilty this week to paying thousands of dollars to an undercover federal agent for nearly two years for help with obtaining immigration benefits through naturalization and other benefits.
Officials say Omar could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and fined up to $250,000. Omar will be stripped of his citizenship and will likely be deported. The man is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 24.
