The CBI on Monday arrested Chief Executive Officer of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Rakesh Kumar in a bribery case. He was already under the agency’s scanner after an authorised agent of the Censor Certification registered a bribery complaint against another agent.
Praveen Mohare had alleged that Shripati Mishra, an authorised agent, had sought a bribe of Rs. 70, 000 on behalf of Mr. Kumar. He had allegedly demanded the bribe for urgently clearing ‘Mor Dauki Ke Bihav’, a film from Chhattisgarh.
The CBI had arrested Mr. Mishra and an advisory panel member of the CBFC, Sarvesh Jaiswal. They were caught red-handed taking a bribe on Mr Kumar’s behalf.
Searches conducted
Later, the CBI conducted searches at the houses of the accused and Mr. Kumar.
“The agency obtained police custody of the two accused. Based on their disclosures, the CEO has been arrested. He will be produced before a competent court on Tuesday,” said a CBI official.
