The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi on November 24 arrested an executive engineer (electrical), regional central electrical division, Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Raipur (Chhattisgarh) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 26,000 from the complainant.
A case was registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on the complaint of a private person alleging that the executive engineer (electrical), regional central electrical division, CPWD, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) had allegedly demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 26,000 from the complainant for clearance of his pending bill amounting to Rs13 lakh (approx).
CBI officials on verifying the information laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 26,000 from the complainant.
Searches were conducted at the residence and office of the executive engineer (electrical) and incriminating documents have been recovered. The accused was produced in the designated court at Raipur and was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
The complainant’s name has been withheld for protecting his/her identity.
