Four cops have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) early this morning at four different locations in connection with an alleged bribery case.
Two officers with the rank of Inspector and Deputy Superintendent of Police were arrested at the Sungai Dua senior police officer mess at 6.25am and at the MACC office at 2.30am.
The other two, with the rank of police corporal, were hauled up at the Lone Pine police mess in Air Itam at 4.25am yesterday and in Jalan Tanah, Kg Che Aminah, Seberang Perai Selatan.
Penang MACC chief Datuk M. Samarajoo confirmed the arrest and said all four were being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009 and would be remanded until Jan 24.
The two officers are from the Special Branch and the Forfeiture of Property Unit, which is under the Criminal Investigation Department.
The two corporals are from the narcotics branch and Special Branch respectively.
“All I can say is investigations are still ongoing and we’re still gathering information in the case.”
